The last official meeting of our Israel adventure brought us right back to SOM – we met with SOM ‘86 alumnus Ron Lubash, the co-founder and managing director of Markstone Capital, in the company’s Tel Aviv offices. It is a tradition of the Israel IE trip to visit Markstone, and Ron challenged us to pose a question he had not yet heard (and also thought to be intelligent). He later told us we had succeeded, but wouldn’t reveal the winning questions!
Mr. Lubash discussed with his reasons for founding the company, the current state of the private equity industry in Israel, and his own beliefs on the importance of failure in the growth and learning process. His thoughts tied together many of the themes we had observed throughout the trip, including the spirit of innovation and abundance of human capital found in Israel, and how both these factors have shaped the country’s private equity landscape.
